"I See Jesus"

Updated: Jun 26

I recently took a flight to Texas. During the flight, a young child, no more than four or five years old, sat in front of me, brimming with curiosity and wonder about the world around him.

With an infectious enthusiasm, he peppered his parents with innocent questions—questions about the "whys" of flight and the joy of being "in the clouds." Though I had my headphones on, I couldn't help but notice his animated chatter.

Then, in a moment, he turned his gaze towards the window, pointed upward, and said, "I see Jesus!" To him, it was just a child's observation, thinking that heaven was up in the clouds from below.

I paused my music, looked out the window at the beauty of creation below me as I flew above, and all I could say was, “I see Jesus too.” It was a beautiful moment, a reflection of how Jesus is all around us, even in the simplicity of a child's perspective. He’s present in the clouds, in all of creation, and in our daily lives. That moment spoke to me of His presence in the wonders of the earth and the marvels of human ingenuity that allow us to soar 40,000 feet above it. From the shapes of the clouds to the radiant sun and boundless blue sky, every detail revealed God’s handiwork.

Romans 1:20 (ESV) says:"For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."

This verse points to the undeniable evidence of God’s eternal power and divine nature throughout creation. In the midst of our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook the beauty that surrounds us—the proof of God’s creativity and generosity. Yet, through the innocent eyes of a child, we are called to pause, open our hearts, and marvel at the world with fresh awe and wonder.

We can learn so much from a child’s unfiltered sense of wonder—to approach life with open hearts and eyes ready to see the beauty and goodness in every moment. Let us not take for granted the gift of creation or the nearness of Jesus in our everyday experiences. Instead, may we embrace each moment with gratitude and joy, echoing the words of that young child, “I see Jesus.” For truly, He is all around us, revealed through the beauty of the earth and the miracle of life.
