Power Of Focus Slide 2

In our frenetic modern lives, it often feels like we have to run just to stand still. The constant barrage of emails, notifications, and news updates bombards us, contributing to alarming levels of anxiety and depression. Our society's obsession with consumerism propels us to seek fleeting dopamine hits, while our cortisol levels soar from our addiction to technology. In this whirlwind, we're so fixated on validation from others that we neglect to appreciate the beauty of existence.

Instead of savoring the present, we're consumed by the relentless pursuit of upgrades and more. But in this pursuit, we risk overlooking the abundance already surrounding us. When our focus is solely on what we lack or desire, we inadvertently overlook the richness of the present moment and the blessings it offers.

In the very beginning of creation, Adam and Eve had an entire garden of trees to eat from, except one. Everything they could ask for was there: abundant food, beauty, and harmony. Life was perfect. Yet, what do humans do? We want what we can’t have. Despite having everything, Adam and Eve were tempted to focus on the one thing they lacked. They became preoccupied with what they didn’t have, rather than appreciating the incredible abundance they did have. This story illustrates a fundamental human tendency to yearn for what is desired or out of reach. God, however, desires for us to cultivate a heart of gratitude. He wants us to focus on the blessings we have, not be distracted by what we don’t.
